Andrea and I met in the summer of 2006 as students at the University of Florida. Both of our fraternities and sororities arranged a "date function" which typically involved each group meeting at a bar, drinking, dancing and hoping to leave that bar with your next girlfriend (or boyfriend). If you ask Andrea, she will tell you that the first time she saw Darren, she thought, "Who is that handsome, little man around all of these tall people?" If you ask Darren, he will tell you that the first he he saw Andrea, he thought, "Who is that cute, tall girl around all of these short people?" Needless to say, we each stood out in the crowd in our own minds. That night, we exchanged phone numbers and started hanging out more (thanks to his best man Mat and my little sorority sister in Kappa, Megan). It didn't take long before we had feelings for one another; especially since Darren persistently called Andrea and IM'ed her on the ever popular AOL Instant Messenger every time she signed on.
Eventually, Darren built up the courage and asked Andrea out on a date to a local Gainesville deli called Crispers (which if you ask Darren is the nicest restaurant under $5). Clearly, Darren wanted to impress Andrea with this ultra classy restaurant. Ultimately, Darren and Andrea became an "official" couple. Nearing graduation from college, we each knew that this relationship was special. Upon graduation, we chose to move to NYC together to start the beginning of our working lives. After 5 great years living in the big apple, we moved back to Florida and are now living in St. Petersburg, FL. After six and a half years and many wonderful milestones in our relationship we could not be happier and more excited to get married! We look forward to celebrating this wonderful occasion with each of you!
After nearly 7 years of dating, Darren finally popped the question on July 3, 2012. For the 4 months before Darren proposed, he had debated on various locations that he felt would be memorable for both he and Andrea. Though, the only place that really felt special was to propose in Gainesville, FL; where he and Andrea had met at the University of Florida.
Darren booked a room at the nicest hotel in Gainesville (the Hilton) and on July 3rd, he, Andrea and their newest puppy Zoey, embarked on a trip to the city where they first met. When they arrived, Darren convinced Andrea to take a shower and get ready for a dinner at their favorite restaurant, Dragonfly. Darren quickly got dressed and told Andrea that he would take Zoey out for a walk before their dinner. Thankfully ONLY puppies need to relieve themselves every 15 minutes, so Andrea understood. Darren went to the hotel lobby and arranged a cab to pick Andrea up from the hotel. Shortly after he would leave for his planned proposal.
Darren and Zoey began their drive onto campus and called Andrea on her cell phone to tell her that a cab would be waiting for her downstairs in the next 5 minutes. Andrea, who was expectedly extremely excited and surprised, had hardly finished showering when she rushed downstairs, hopped in the cab and drove off to the "secret location." This location is the one place that means most to Andrea and I (and most Gator fans) and brings the most memories when we think about our college experience together, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (Florida Football Field). Darren walked to the top of the stadium at the 50 yard line where the campus is visible from that particular spot (truly panoramic and romantic, I must say). Shortly after he arrived, Andrea sprinted into the stadium like Percy Harvin on a touchdown run and found Darren waiting for her.
Needless to say, it was about time. Darren and Andrea are finally engaged (a huge relief to Andrea) and are the happiest of couples. We can't wait to finally be husband and wife in October 2013 and look forward to sharing this celebration together.
